ARBY ‘N’ THE CHIEF S8E16 & 17: “zero hour” & “apocalypse”

UPDATE (6-19-2021): The roles of Claire and Kylie are paid roles due to the volume of dialogue belonging to them as well as the key and recurring nature of them to the story. Following casting, a $60 CAN fee will be trasferred via Paypal to the actress upon delivery and review of all required dialogue, per character. If one actress performs for both roles, her total fee will be $120 CAN. The fee is based on a rate of $30 per hour for an estimated two hours of recording work per character. One actress may be hired for both roles based on auditions received, or one actress for each. Because of spoilers, the full amount of dialogue for the two roles has been limited here to small samples. If you’d like to audition, please deliver recordings based on the samples of the full sides for Claire and Kylie listed at the bottom of this page. If I select you for the role, the full sides will be sent to you directly. Please don’t share the documents with anyone.

I'm currently accepting public submissions of vocal performance recordings for characters featured in the upcoming episodes of Arby 'n' the Chief. You'll find PDF documents linked below. Each document contains all the scenes from the episodes’ full screenplays in which a particular character is featured, with action omitted to contain spoilers. There's one document for each character I need to cast. Each character is listed below underneath the intended gender of that character. If you have an accent of some kind, that's okay, it may work for me. To state the obvious, auditioning for these roles involves absorbing some episode spoilers. Please avoid spoiling any events for fans of the show. Thank you for your interest!

Requirements:

  • Be over eighteen (18) years old

  • Acting interest/ability

  • Computer

  • Microphone

  • Pop filter

  • Recording software

  • Internet connection

  • Online storage/delivery method

Instructions:

  • Open the PDF documents listed below.

  • Read the scenes.

  • Decide which character you'd like to read for. If you'd like to record for multiple or all of them, that's fine.

  • Set up your microphone.

  • Set up your pop filter.

  • Open your recording software.

  • Record your session.

  • Please record thirty seconds of room tone with no other sounds, that includes breathing. This is for background noise reduction.

  • Trimming dead air from the session is preferred, but optional.

  • Save the session, preferably in .WAV format.

  • Upload the file somewhere (Google Drive preferred).

  • Send a link to the file to jcjgraham@gmail.com.

  • Please write in the subject line 'Audition - ANTC 816/17 - [CharacterName].

Things to Consider:

  • Prior acting experience isn't necessary, just an interest in acting.

  • Realistic, character-driven line delivery is favored over unnatural projection (not radio or YouTube-style voiceover).

  • The microphone doesn't have to be spectacular, just something that can record at around podcast-level quality.

  • The pop filter doesn't have to be fancy either. Could be a foam tip, wind sock, even stretched pantyhose would do.

  • Use recording software that lets you read the audio waveform on the fly and avoid peaking.

  • It's better that the recording is too quiet than too loud. A low volume can be boosted and background noise reduced. Audio damaged by peaking can't be fixed.

  • Multiple takes of each line with different spins is encouraged, giving me some variety to pick from.

  • Feel free to trim dead air or takes you hate, but keep in mind I may like the takes you hate if there's a naturalism in the delivery.

  • Send your audio to me raw, don't put any post-processing effects on it to make it sound lo-fi or whatever, leave that to me.

Administrator

Runs an illegal online marketplace consisting of anonymous buyers and sellers and transactions in cryptocurrency. Somewhat creepy.

Hacker

An eccentric game modder.

Informant/Adam’s Captain 5

One of Kylie's Captains from her previously existing army of hackers disguised as one of Adam's Captains and working as an informant. Comes off as good-hearted in spite of his criminality.

SWAT Agent 1

Highly-trained agent of an emergency tactical team deployed by local law enforcement.

Highly-trained agent of an emergency tactical team deployed by local law enforcement.

Female

Claire

Arbiter’s friend. Indifferent towards Chief. Polite, rational, level-headed, intelligent, slight sense of humor.

Kylie

Ex-member of Chaos Theosis turned online hacker gang leader. Morally ambiguous, bitter, angry, abusive past, prickly, incisive, impatient, dislikes men, has an attitude. Some sense of morality within her despite her thievery.
